Student Research

The CPHCE has already a number of students involved in a diverse range of projects. The CPHCE is able to link students with existing projects and support. The Centre encourages inquiries from students. Please read the information and follow the links below before clicking on the Online Enquiry button to the right of this text to make a specific enquiry about research opportunities.

Our Centre is part of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine within UNSW. The web site for our School is www.sphcm.med.unsw.edu.au. The School has a large number of international students as well as local students. For full details of the research degrees offered by the School of Public Health and Community Medicine please click here for undergraduate degree programs or here for postgraduate degree opportunities.

International students will need a scholarship to cover fees and living costs. Information on some scholarships which are available can be found in this section of the School website. These include scholarships from WHO or the Australian overseas aid organisation AusAid.

There are more details for future post graduate students on the post graduate research students website. You can get more information on the requirments for PhD students from the post graduate student coordinator in the School: Dr Niamh Stephenson.

Independent Learning Project

The Independent Learning Project has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to participate in an extended period of in-depth study in an area of their choosing. There are opportunities for medical students to do research projects with the CPHCE.

Visiting scholars

Visiting academics from other departments and universities are welcome at CPHCE. We are committed to learning and knowledge exchange with other departments and universities. If you would like to discuss this please contact: Professor Mark Harris.

Researcher Development Program

Funded by the PHCRED program, the CPHCE offers the innovative Researcher Development Program (RDP). The program provides the opportunity for novice researchers to develop thorough skills in primary health care research through hands on learning. During a 12 month placement at a CPHCE research centre, the new researcher has opportunities to learn about all aspects of the research process.

Currently, the CPHCE have two RDP researchers being mentoring and two placements have already been successfully completed. If you are interested in applying for the next round of the RDP program please contact: Ms Melanie Marshall. If you would like to find out more about our UNSW PHCRED activities please go to our PHReNet page.

CPHCE partners

Partnerships represent a key feature of the work of the CPHCE. We see the partnerships between researchers, policy makers, practitioners, local communities and consumers in developing and implementing research as crucial in the process of ensuing that our research is relevant and usable in policy and practice settings.

We work with a number of partners from a variety of backgrounds, including: policy makers, Division of General Practice, Area Health Services, other universities and consumers. These groups are integral to ensuring the success and relevance of our research. If you interested in partnership opportunities with the CPHCE please contact: A/Professor Gawaine Powell Davies
